Work well. Then go outside. Your summer guide to Fulham

When the sun finally shows up in London, few places reward you quite like Fulham. Tucked between the Thames and the tree-lined avenues of SW6, this is a neighbourhood that does village life without sacrificing city edge. The New King’s Road buzzes with independent restaurants and neighbourhood pubs; Parsons Green fills up with locals soaking in rare warmth; the riverside path stretches west past Bishop’s Park and Craven Cottage with almost no one on it. There’s a reason people who move to Fulham rarely leave.

Based at 126 New King’s Road, Uncommon Fulham sits at the heart of all of it. Here’s how to make the most of a summer day.

Morning. Coffee and a Clear Head

Start the day at Tinto Coffee on New King’s Road. It has properly earned its status as a neighbourhood institution: the espresso is excellent, the pastries are fresh, and the crowd of regulars who set up with laptops from opening suggests everyone has quietly figured out the same thing. It’s the kind of independent café that makes a neighbourhood feel like a place.

If you want to ease in more slowly, Hally’s near Parsons Green is the California-inspired all-day café that got there first and still does it best, think fresh juices, avocado toast, your breakfast classics.

Head into Uncommon by mid-morning. The building has everything you need for a productive day: fast Wi-Fi, onsite café within a beautiful and comfortable members lounge, meeting rooms, and unique design. Grab a desk by the window and get going while the day is still cool.

Midday. Step Outside

At lunch, the Thames Path is right there and you should use it. Walk five minutes south from New King’s Road and you’re on one of the quietest and most scenic stretches of riverside in London, proper wide skies, boat traffic on the water, Victorian lampposts, and the occasional heron sitting on the bank doing nothing in particular.

Bishop’s Park is worth building into a lunchtime loop. It runs along the Thames between Putney Bridge and Craven Cottage, with a long riverside promenade, a meadow, and an ornamental lake. In summer the water play area opens and the whole park takes on a different energy. Pack lunch or pick something up from North End Road Market on the way, a proper old-school London street market, open Monday to Saturday, selling everything from fresh fruit and veg to flowers and street food.

Afternoon. Find Your Spot

When the afternoon heat kicks in, Parsons Green is the obvious destination. The small triangular park is surrounded by independent cafés, boutiques and the kind of unhurried street life that makes you wonder why you don’t do this more often. Grab a cold coffee, sit on a bench, and do absolutely nothing for twenty minutes. It counts as productivity.

For a longer wander, the new Fulham Pier development has opened up a stretch of Thames riverfront that wasn’t accessible for decades. There are restaurants, bars, outdoor spaces, and, in summer, live music and DJs as the sun drops. Brasserie Constance here is worth bookmarking: floor-to-ceiling river views, a terrace, and a menu of updated classics that feels exactly right on a warm afternoon.

Evening. Eat and Unwind

Fulham has a quietly brilliant dining scene. For a proper occasion, The Harwood Arms on Walham Grove holds a Michelin star and serves outstanding British cooking in a relaxed gastropub setting – seasonal ingredients, beautifully executed, with excellent beer on tap. Book ahead.

For something more neighbourhood, Nuovi Sapori on New King’s Road is the kind of family-run Italian that builds a loyal local following and never needs to chase trends: generous pasta, excellent veal, proper tiramisu. Pappa Ciccia is the alternative for wood-fired pizza, colourful, slightly chaotic, and very good.

For drinks, The Crabtree on the Thames has arguably the best pub beer garden in west London. Cold pint, river view, long summer evening. That’s the brief and it delivers entirely. Alternatively, Little Blue Door on Fulham Road has the cosy, packed-with-things feel of your most interesting friend’s flat with cocktails, decent food, no pretension.
