The best local coffee and treats in Highbury & Islington

It revs us up in the morning, keeps us going throughout the day and is the one drink we can find anywhere. We’ve all heard reports over the years of coffee ousting tea as our national drink. That really says a lot. No high street is complete without a bevy of coffee shops and most of us never leave home without our own coffee mug.

Often we can’t approach work without a steaming Americano, an oat milk latte or a double-shot espresso and we have all become connoisseurs of the best coffees in town… and where to find them.

One of the great benefits of having a workspace at Uncommon Highbury is that we understand coffee culture better than most. Each Uncommon workspace houses its own café, offering incredibly high-quality coffee, alongside healthy snacks and drinks.

Here are some of the  best local coffee and treats in Highbury & Islington, handpicked by us.

Vagabond

Vagabond is part of a small, select chain which is gradually spreading out throughout North London. Head for the Holloway Road café to understand the vibe. A small garden at the back is great during summer and while the coffee is lovely, the eats and treats are equally delicious and all made in house. Vegans will love the Buddha Burger! They also roast their own beans in small batches. They are dedicated to sourcing speciality coffees from around the world in the pursuit of quality and consistency.

St Paul

St Paul is a bit of a local legend. Find it just off Highbury Corner and enjoy not just the coffee, but the seasonal all-day brunch which emphasises local and fresh produce. May sure you experience staying for a late for a glass of wine and a chance to unwind in their cosy space.

Katsute 100

Katsute100 is a Japanese tea room located in Camden Passage – they also have a branch in Brick Lane. The café itself is stunning; it’s infused with hints of English tradition as well as Japanese, simultaneously exotic and familiar. Your taste buds will be delighted at the array of unique and wonderful flavours of their teas, coffees and cakes – from yuzu to matcha, there’s something for everyone. Make it an experience whilst you’re at it, and try out their different sake on offer.

Ez & Moss

Ez & Moss is a cosy cafe just around the corner from Uncommon. It’s the perfect spot to grab something on the go! Their menu is vegetarian & vegan and they source produce from local suppliers that are freshly prepared. You can tell their home-made goods are all made with love, because their matcha muffins are the best we’ve ever tried.

Kipferl

Located in Camden Passage, Kipferl is a taste of old Vienna just a stone’s throw from City Road. A real taste of another country, it is open all day from breakfast through to supper where you can indulge from schnitzels and noodles to the most amazing, heart-stopping cakes and pastries. Alongside the applestrudel there is an amazing sachertorte, but if you like eating your coffee as well as drinking it try the espressokuchen, an espresso soaked cake with chocolate and almonds!
