Uncommon People: Clare Margison

You won’t notice us. But we’re always here in the background. Making sure you have everything you need. Helping you focus. Calmly supporting the every day. Uncommon People is a series to introduce you to the people who help make Uncommon thrive each and every day. Get to know us…

Can you please introduce yourself, tell us your name and your role at Uncommon?
My name is Clare Margison and I am the Client Experience Manager at Uncommon Liverpool Street.

What career path led you to this position? What have you done before joining Uncommon?
My career path has been very unexpected. I got my first job working for the Greater Manchester Police Force as a civilian. I wanted to become a full time Police Officer but before making that sort of commitment, I wanted to expand my skills in other areas and trained at collage to become a Personal Trainer. I then decided to seek opportunities in the industry I truly love – fashion. I got my first role as a Visual Merchandiser for a leading high street retailer. I stayed there for 13 years, working my way up and becoming responsible for global markets like Australia, before moving to London and taking over the role of Area Visual Manager. After 13 years of working in the same environment I was looking for a new challenge and that’s when I found Uncommon. My role still focuses on service and people but in a completely new surrounding.

Can you describe your role and what an average day looks like for you?
Everyday is completely different and that’s one of many reasons why I enjoy being at Uncommon. My role, between myself and the Client Experience Assistants who I manage, is to ensure that all our members receive the top quality service. We are here to make sure that they feel relaxed, productive and truly enjoy coming to their workspace every single day. I also act as a right hand to our General Manger, manage events, host viewing for new clients, assist in members on-boarding and enquires…and many more!

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
Happy members. I’ve built strong and personal relations with many of them. Knowing that they are happy because of the support and service I have offered is truly rewarding.

What advice would you give someone who’s considering a similar role?
You have to be very organised, be able to prioritise your responsibilities, enjoy unexpected challenges, have a passion for customer service and of course be a team player.

What do you enjoy most about working from Uncommon spaces?
I have a passion for wellbeing and a healthy mind set. I greatly believe that the right workspace environment can positively affect how you feel and perform, both physically and mentally.

What’s your go to productivity hack?

As my days are very busy I write a to-do list the evening before. The brain is more receptive to handwriting notes and forming that habit can really increase your productivity.

What’s your favourite way to unwind after a busy day and what are you passionate about outside of work?
After work I usually head to the gym or go for a run or a long walk in my favourite park. I love being with nature!
