DARK SIDE OF THE MOON
With super/collider and Paul Hill

7 – 10PM

Tuesday 31 March @ Uncommon Borough Roof Terrace

What is the Moon and where did it come from? How has the Moon affect life on Earth and how has it influenced our own human evolution and culture? Is the Moon crucial for life on our planet or could we survive without it? After Paul’s talk, we will look at the crescent moon and Venus through several different telescopes.

The dark side of the Moon was not seen until 1959 when Soviet Spacecraft, Luna 3, transmitted photographs of this unfamiliar face back to Earth.  Join Paul Hill as he speaks about how the tides on Earth and the movement of the Moon are intrinsically connected through tidal locking and then look at the crescent moon and Venus through several different telescopes.

Paul Hill is an elected fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, co-presenter and writer of Awesome Astronomy podcast, a Space Ambassador for ESERO and has appeared on BBC News and Radio to discuss a range of astronomy and space issues as well as being interviewed on the BBC’s “The Sky at Night”. He is also part of the team that runs the bi-annual, family friendly AstroCamp in the Brecon Beacons.
