Escape the hustle and bustle
Here are some stats about our capital city. The 8.8 million people living here make it home to 13% of the entire UK population. In Inner London, almost a quarter of the population are aged between 25 and 34. And with lots of jobs, a multicultural society, history, lots of public transport, bars and cultural events to experience, it’s not surprising. London has become akin to a rite of passage for university graduates and young professionals. We’ve explored the reasons why uprooting your office, and straying away from central London may be beneficial to individual employees and your business as a whole
Too much of a good thing
It’s a lot to expect all the cities benefits without some drawbacks. WIth all its riches come downsides. Crowded streets and trains and expensive cost of living. Not to mention noise and air pollution.
Much of what makes London appealing to young people is what makes it unappealing to older people. Some couples migrate to the suburbs when they decide to raise a family in favour of the safe, healthy and more tranquil surroundings there. Other people make the move to avoid the high property prices in central London and maintain distance between work and home. Some people just want to avoid the expensive weekends (and hangovers).
What’s a worker bee to do? Lose income and career opportunities to gain countryside and a healthier lifestyle? Sacrifice the countryside, fresh air and a healthy work life balance for higher salary and greater career prospects? Or, strike a compromise but incur a long commute as a result? To reach your full potential, you need a healthy mind, body and soul. So, compromise any of the previous factors at the cost of one of these three components.
1,583 square kilometres of London to choose from. Instead of you or your home – move your workplace.
At the heart of it all
For bankers, barristers and those in the financial, residential, fashion, and retail industries, central London is the place to be. The big names, companies and many of your clients and businesses are here. So scheduling meetings, sharing ideas and networking is easier if you’re near Waterloo, Liverpool St or Borough. That said, now we’re able to dial into meetings remotely, being constantly in the thick of it all may not be necessary. Consider the real benefits of planting your business in central London as opposed to quieter, more residential boroughs.
Avoid the busy and sweaty commutes. Escape the high business rates. Base your office somewhere like Highbury and Islington or Fulham. Travelling in the opposite direction to the sea of other commuters in the morning might be satisfying. If not, your commute will be significantly reduced at least. Lunchtime walks or workouts are less of a chore when more parks are close by. Schools may be nearer to the office too which is handy for helping your partner with drop off and pick ups. Relocating from the hustling centre could be what you need to break free from your ‘working life rut’. Venturing into the city for stand out meetings and events will become exciting and inspiring again.
