Make every day Earth Day

Another year has passed, and so another Earth day has arrived – a special day that brings us all together to demonstrate a support for our Earth’s protection. It’s the time to celebrate our planet, but also to raise awareness of its alarming and devastating destruction. Now more than ever, we must unite and make a positive change in saving our planet!

Here at Uncommon, our priority is to create the happiest and healthiest work environment. We aspire to create a caring and innovative green work culture, and with everyone’s effort to reduce their carbon footprint, we can achieve amazing results together.

The good news is, we don’t need to move mountains to make a powerful impact; it’s the little things that really come into effect when preserving and caring for the planet. With every small yet consistent change to our everyday habits, we can change the environment in which we live in for the better; and what greater place to encourage a shared green environment than a co-working space!

Here are a few ways you can help achieve a greener workplace:

.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Find your nearest recycling facilities for which you have full ongoing access, allowing you to recycle routinely and effectively. With so many people under one roof, it is strongly encouraged that everyone uses the appropriate bins to separate their waste.

Granted that recycling is a significant step in the right direction, a sustainable environment isn’t solely about throwing paper in the blue bin. Before we are quick to jump and recycle something, are we able to reuse the material first? If we tweak our mind-set and give more thought to whether we can reduce or reuse certain things, office consumption will drop dramatically as a result.

When it comes to printing paper, it may still seem unrealistic to have a paperless workplace, however, printing double-sided already cuts paper usage by 50%! With constant new technological developments, there are seemingly endless ways to transfer and distribute all forms of information that doesn’t require printing. So, before you click on that printer button, think twice about whether it’s truly necessary.

.

A Cup of Green

One way to stop waste in the kitchens is to avoid plastic material, so make sure to use reusable mugs, dishes and cutlery. Here at Uncommon we support KeepCup initiative, where if you bring your own cup you receive 10% off any hot drink from our Café menu!

.

Eco Commute

Not only is cycling one of the greenest ways to travel to work, but you can enjoy the sunny season ahead and stay in shape whilst doing so. Uncommon offers a secure place to store your bike, as well as several shower rooms inside to freshen up.

.

Switching off

Electricity, heating and air conditioning account for more than three-quarters of a commercial building’s energy use, of which 30% of the energy used is usually wasted. Being mindful of the lights and room temperature in your office goes a long way when leaving at the end of the day, just as you would when leaving your home. Furthermore, give your computer and other electronics a break by turning them off occasionally, as it can greatly reduce the amount of energy consumed.

.

Spread the Love

Last but not least, spread the love for our planet and encourage those around you to follow in your footsteps. Whether you add a green message to your email signature, or buy your colleague a reusable coffee cup, every small good deed goes a long way.

Happy Earth Day!
